Fence and Gate Installation: A Recent Project Showcase

Sheridan fencing - Dave Relf

When searching for fence and gate companies near me, it’s essential to choose a team that delivers quality workmanship and a tailored approach to your outdoor needs. In a recent project, we had the pleasure of installing a new fence and custom gates for a customer in Rainham, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of their property. Here’s a detailed overview of our process:

Preparing the Site: Taking Down the Old Wood Shed

Before we began the fence installation, the first task was to dismantle the customer’s old wooden shed. The shed had seen better days, so it needed to be carefully taken down to clear the area for the new fence and gates. This opened up space for a future replacement wood shed.

1. Fence Installation on the Wall

Assessing the Situation:
We began by assessing the site and determining that the boundary line was on the customer’s side, meaning the fence posts needed to be securely bolted to the front of the existing wall.

Post Installation:
Using heavy-duty bolts, we attached the fence posts to the front of the wall. This provided a strong, stable base for the fence structure, ensuring long-lasting durability and resistance to outdoor conditions.

Wall Plates as Spacers to Push Back the Rails:
To ensure the fence boards would sit directly on top of the wall, rather than in front, we installed wall plates on the back of the posts. These wall plates acted as spacers, pushing the rails back and allowing us to achieve a clean, polished look, with the boards neatly resting along the wall’s top edge.f028d371-63e0-43db-9329-b5978c21e2b9jpg

Motorway Rails for Structural Support:
We used motorway rails for the horizontal framework, which were bolted and nailed into the posts and wall plates. By pushing the rails back with the wall plates, we ensured a solid and well-aligned foundation for the fence.

Boarding Out with Close Boards:
Finally, we completed the project by boarding out the fence with close boards. These boards were tightly fitted to provide privacy, security, and a sleek, finished appearance. The close boarding, combined with the sturdy post-and-rail setup, resulted in a robust fence that not only looks great but is built to last.

2. Custom Gate Installations

Once the fence was installed, we moved on to the installation of two custom gates to complete the project.

Front Gate Installation:
The front gate was hung between one of the newly installed wall posts and a separate post positioned next to the house. This setup allowed for easy access at the front of the property while maintaining the overall appearance and strength of the fence. We ensured that the gate blended seamlessly with the fence for a cohesive look.86c3959f-0cf3-46b2-8d12-c4b005220239jpg

Back Gate and Additional Fencing:
The second gate, located at the back of the house, was installed in a wider opening. For this installation, we used three posts to support the structure. In addition to the gate, we constructed a small section of fencing to match the main fence along the wall, creating a unified design. This gate and fencing combination enclosed the space, making it ideal for the customer’s planned new wood shed.57e6185b-af03-4827-a033-382c133f1637jpg
